Attorney Ward Nelson named chairman of the enterprise legislation division of Tennessee Bar

Ward Nelson, attorney in the corporate law division of Miller & Martin’s Chattanooga office, has been named chairman of the business law division of the Tennessee Bar Association effective July 1.

The TBA’s Business Law Department focuses on promoting its members’ knowledge of company, LLC and partnership law, the Uniform Commercial Code and banking law, as well as issues of taxation, debtor-creditors relationships and litigation practice in relation to such areas .

As Chairman, Nelson, along with his Section Committee, will have primary responsibility for providing legal training, monthly legal alerts, and recommendations from the Section to the TBA Board of Governors regarding legislation in these areas of Tennessee law.

This year the section is holding its annual Business Law Forum as a two-day, live virtual event on July 23-29, offering attendees five general and one double educational credit hours focusing on tax issues relevant to corporate attorneys in Tennessee. Miller & Martin is once again a proud sponsor of this program, which will include a session titled “Volunteer Taxation: Tennessee Corporation Choice” with a presentation by Miller & Martin attorney Ansley Moses.

Mr. Nelson has more than 30 years of corporate, healthcare and transportation law experience, primarily on mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions. His background as a chartered accountant has proven invaluable in structuring and evaluating the financial aspects of buy and sell business transactions in a variety of industries including flooring and logistics. He also represents clients in the healthcare sector on transactional and contractual matters.
