Los Angeles (AP) – Britney Spears’ father reportedly agreed on Thursday to step down from the power of attorney that had administered her life and money for 13 years.
Multiple media outlets, including celebrity websites TMZ and CNN, reported that James Spears had filed legal documents stating he would resign to fire him for no reason. That decision came after months of public and legal debates with his daughter and her new lawyer over the past few weeks.
According to the document, he is “a constant target of aggression” but “he is in her best interests in the public battle with her daughter for continued service as her guardian. I don’t think it will be. “
The files say James Spears will fight a petition to challenge him but is working with the court and Britney Spears attorney Matthew Rosengert to “prepare an orderly transition to a new guardian.” Says.
“We are delighted that Mr. Spears and his attorney have accepted the application for dismissal today,” said Rosengart in a statement. “That’s evidence of Britney.”
For most of the history of a guardianship system established in 2008, James Spears oversaw his daughter’s personal affairs and money. In 2019, he resigned as her so-called guardian and retained her financial control.
However, he was the target of many outbursts from his daughter in two court speeches in June and July. She called it “abuse”. In June, Spears used an intrauterine device for birth control, accidentally took medication, got married, gave birth to another child, or even got into a friend’s car unsupervised.
