Catherine Hilliard appointed to the Elmiron Product Legal responsibility Litigation Plaintiff Steering Committee
The Elmiron lawsuit seeks to blame Johnson & Johnson and Janssen Pharmaceuticals for failing to warn the public that taking the prescription drug Elmiron could lead to a serious eye condition called maculopathy. Since 1996, Elmiron has been prescribed to millions of consumers for the treatment of a painful bladder disease known as interstitial cystitis (IC). However, there is evidence that taking Elmiron leads to unknown complications such as blurred vision, dark spots, difficulty concentrating, and even blindness.
On January 22, 2012 the honorable Brian R. Martinotti, United States District Judge for The United States District Court, District New Jersey named the plaintiff’s governing committee and selected Ms. Hilliard as one of a handful of highly qualified legal counsel to move the litigation forward in an “efficient and fair manner”.
Ms. Hilliard commented, “As I am making my first PSC appointment, I am grateful to Judge Martinotti for the opportunity to help conduct this important litigation. The leadership board is refreshingly diverse and, as a Hispanic woman, the movement encourages me to offer wider access MDL leadership opportunities. Elmiron is defective and inappropriately dangerous, causing permanent vision loss for thousands of consumers. I look forward to working with the leadership team to aggressively pursue this litigation. ”
