Kilos to consolidate water provide with Clever County after litigation
POUND, VA. (WJHL) – The city of Pound, Virginia abandoned its water and sanitation services after the Virginia Attorney General’s Office issued an ultimatum to the city.
City administrator Drew Mullins told CBS subsidiary WJHL that the Virginia attorney general had told Pound City Council that they could either consolidate their water supplies with the Wise County Public Service Authority or face litigation.
Mullins said the city council unanimously voted for the consolidation Thursday morning. An exact amount of the fines the city faced in relation to its sewage problems has not been released.
The decision came after the Virginia Department of Health issued advice on the continuous discharge of wastewater into the Pound River in the city. Dickenson County Regulators threatened the city with legal action in May if the issue was not resolved.
The consolidation does not take effect immediately. Details such as the jobs at the water treatment plant are still being worked out between the city and Wise County PSA.
