Martin Lewis: Cash Saving Skilled warns of 1.three million energy of lawyer refunds due

Martin Lewis, an expert in saving money, stated that there are still people across the country who are eligible for a refund of their power of attorney requests. How can people claim the money?

Martin Lewis shared the update in his latest newsletter, addressing that there are 1.3 million people in the UK who have not applied for their £ 54 refund.

A power of attorney is a written power of attorney to represent or act on behalf of someone else in private matters.

The Justice Department announced that people who paid to register a permanent power of attorney in England or Wales between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2017, were owed money back after the fees were overestimated.

However, not everyone who is entitled to the refund has claimed it back.

The fee was reduced to £ 82 in April 2017.

The newsletter added, “Since the fee is only intended to cover operating costs, the government is paying back the difference between what the applicants paid and what they should have paid.

“It also charges 0.5 percent interest – which for most people is probably a cent or two or a pound.

“How much you can claim back depends on when you paid for the power of attorney and whether you paid full registration or half-price fee.”

A refund of £ 38 will be issued to those who paid the fee between April 2015 and March 2016, while a refund of £ 45 will be available to those who paid between April 2016 and March 2017.

How can you request the refund if you are eligible?

The MoneySavingExpert newsletter states, “You can apply for a full refund online on the government website until Sunday, January 31st. However, if you have any problems you can call the guardian’s office on 0300 456 0300. Lines are only open on weekdays so you need to call before 5pm on Friday 29th January to meet the deadline if you do so by phone. “

For those who claim you will need:

• Name, address and date of birth of the donor
• Your UK bank account number and routing number
• The name of one of the attorneys on the power of attorney
