Professor GA Olawoyin is dead. He was the first professor of business law.
He died in a private hospital in Lagos on Saturday night.
Professor GA Olawoyin, SAN, was born on Monday July 31, 1939 in Ile-Ife into an upper middle class family. After primary school at the Royal School at 135 Iremo Road in Ile-Ife; (His maternal grandfather’s private school) African School, Ilesa; The African School, Oke-Eso, Ile-Ife and the Central School, Ilare, Ile-Ife, Professor Olawoyin went to Oduduwa College and later to Ogbomoso High School, where he came out on top in the final exam.
He worked briefly as an accountant with the Federal Civil Service in Lagos and Nigerian Breweries Limited. In January 1959 he began his A-levels at the Abeokuta Grammar School in Abeokuta.
The young Olawoyin completed his Advanced Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level in January 1962. He passed the examination with flying colors and was admitted to the renowned London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London).
He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from the University of London in 1965 and 1966.
